US Govt Cyberattacks: Several federal agencies bear the brunt of new wave of attacks IOneindia News

U.S. cybersecurity officials have said that several federal agencies have been hit with a ransomware attack that appears to be part of a widespread and coordinated effort to exploit a vulnerability in a widely used software.

The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said several federal agencies had experienced intrusions following the discovery of a weakness in the file transfer software named ‘MOVEit’.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, responsible for safeguarding the nation's cyber infrastructure, confirmed the breaches.

While specific agencies impacted were not disclosed, the Department of Energy acknowledged the breach and stated that immediate steps were taken to mitigate the impact.

The extent of the breaches and their consequences are currently being assessed.

MOVEit, made by Progress Software Corp, is typically used by organisations to transfer files between their partners or customers.

It is also used by a financial institution that requires their customers to upload their data to apply for a loan.
