Indian election officials get set on the eve of the world's biggest democratic vote, in which 968 million are eligible to cast their ballots across a six-week period.

The marathon duration of the vote is an effort to ease the immense logistical challenge and takes into account local weather, religious festivals, farm harvests and school holidays across the country.
