SPD Chief responds to proposed pay cuts for 13 members of department's command staff

SEATTLE -- The Seattle City Council is proposing deep cuts to Police Chief Carmen Best's pay and the compensation for 12 members of her command staff. The Council's Select Budget Committee passed a series of amendments Wednesday designed to reduce the Seattle Police Department's (SPD) budget. One amendment, which passed by a vote of 6-3, would reduce the pay for 13 SPD command staff positions, including the police chief, chief operating officer, 6 assistant chiefs, and 5 directors.
