A classic coming of age story springs to life on stage at the Theatre Of Youth.

"The Outsiders" Runs through April 5th with a limited number of public performances.

Based on the book written more than fifty years ago, director Chris Kelly has the inside scoop on why "The Outsiders" still resonates with audiences.

He says "I think one of the reasons kids respond so much to the book is that they feel they can see themselves in it.

They feel that it's very true to life and one side of that is all the violence." The play deals with rival gangs and the realistic fight scenes, choreographed by Steve Vaughn, means "The Outsiders" comes with a special advisory.

The show is recommended for ages twelve and up.

Chris Kelly points out that adults will enjoy it too.

Executive Director of TOY Meg Quinn says that this may be one of the most popular shows they have had here with the school shows booking quickly.

There will be seven public performances with the first being this Saturday at 2pm.

You can get details, tickets and other show days and times at the Theatre of Youth website.
