With thousands of students out of school for the next 2 and a half weeks, districts across the state are making sure they have something to eat.

With thousands of students out of school for the next 2 and a half weeks - districts across the state are making sure they have something to eat.

Florence city school staff members spent the day passing out these pre- packaged lunch and breakfast meals.

Waay 31's breken terry spoke with the superintendent -- who says right now central office staff are preparing more meals for tomorrow.

With so many unknowns right now - florence city school superintendent jimmy shaw said one thing he does know, is that no student in his district will go hungry.

Shaw- we feel like right now there are a couple of things we can control and one of those is offering services.

I talked to a grandparent - who told me she's thankful for this during uncertain times.

Johnson-potter- tremendous.

It's wonderful.

Because some kids i'm sure parents are struggling as it is.

Betty johnson-potter is taking care of her grandson over the next few weeks while schools are closed - because both of his parents are at work.

With his to-go meal in hand - she said this is a weight lifted off her shoulders.

Johnson-potter- i thank god for this because this will save me worrying about what i am going to feed him or already having something prepared.

Dr. shaw tells us they will be handing out pre- packaged meals until things change.

The meals can be picked up monday through friday between 10:30 and 12:30.
