50 People Try To Describe Their State's Flag

We challenged 50 people, one from each state in the U.S., to describe their state flag from memory.

The results were encouraging!

Texas, California, and Maryland might be familiar to you but how about some of the rest?

Do you know what your state flag looks like?

- Oh, okay.

Yes.Tennessee state flag.Flag shape, right?Rectangle.It's all red, like a candy apple redand in the middle isthis big gorgeous circleand it's blue and thenthere's white stars,either in the middle or onthe edges of the circle.I cannot remember in this moment.[upbeat music]- Wow, I don't remember.It's red white and blue, I think.- God no.Sorry.Honestly, I don't thinkI've ever even seen it.If I did, it was by accidentand I didn't know what it was.- It's like two stripesand there's like a littlelaurel wreath on it.- I wanna say it's reminiscentof the American flagbut maybe with a big circle in the middle.- The state flag is red, white and bluewith a big white star.- I'm getting it confused withPuerto Rico for some reasonbut it's kinda like that.I think it's got a triangleor a triangle with a circleand then a couple stripes.- Our New York City flagis orange, white and blue.I'm not familiar what theflag looks like for the state.- It's a diamond, I thinkit has 13 stars around it,Arkansas is in the middle of it.- It is a giant golden star in the middleand a variance of red andblue lines cascading down.- Oh, there's a bear.There's a bear in the middle,and that actually mightbe California's state flagso yeah, I don't know.- It's got the bears on it.One bear.[bell ringing]- Our flag is actually pretty greatand it's got blue, yellow, redand white, I think.- The state flag has a bison on it.- It's a blue flag and ithas a palm tree and a moon.- It's like yellow starson a dark blue flag.- It is a blue field with a mother pelicanfeeding three of her baby pelicansblood from her breastwhich is kinda creepy.- There's the seal in the middleand there's, like, two red X's.- So the Hawaiian flag is verysimilar to the British flag.It's got a lot of red,white and blue striping,a big X though the middle.- Our state flag looks likea treasure map at the end.There's just one bigred X on a white flag.- Ah, God.It's got, I hate to say it,but it's got a confederate flag on it.It's not a cute look.- So it's solid blue andin the middle there's like,it looks like a little light spherewith I think, like, nine dots on it maybe.- It is a sky bluebackground with Oklahomaand the date of the union is 1907.- I think it's somewoman sitting on a chair.- I wanna say there's like an eagle on it.- I think there is a wild rose on it.- Red, white and blue with six stars.- I'm seeing a tree.I don't think that's right.- It's colorful like my outfit.- I think the Minnesota Vikings,the football team's emblem,for the most part couldsuffice as the state's flag.- Rectangular, yellow, Zia symbol.It's like a red sun look like.There's four rays going up, out and down.- It's a blue backgroundwith gold fringe on the endsand then we have ourstate seal in the middle.- The seal is basically a shipand it's got nine stars around the ship.- It has the slogan "Ad Astra Per Aspera,"and it also has a farmer plowing a field.- It has like a settlerand a Native Americanlike shaking hands.- It's someone and they'resort of planting seeds.- I believe there's a plowand some fields and then I'm going to saythat there's also some gold and miningtype of things in there.- And it had two horseson it and an eagle on top.- A crest on the upper left, I think,they are some sort of leaf.- There's kind of anature scene in the middleof a moose in a lake,and then there's a farmer on one sideand a sailor on the other.- A navy blue and yellow witha person right in the middle,stepping on a snake.- There's two moose on thereand they're kinda like, holding hands.Is it a moose or is it a deer?I don't know.And then of coursethere's a slogan under itwhich is pretty much, inlayman's terms just saying,if you're looking fora pleasant peninsula,you've looked upon one.- The flag is mostly dark blue.[clock ticking]Dark blue.- It's this anchor in the middle.It's on a white backdrop.- Sun in the middle and a bigbeautiful blue background,the color of the sky.- It's George Washingtonand it's all greenbut it's a little circle with Washingtonright in the middle of it.- The state flag is- [Group] Blue.- It's got the Vermont seal on it.- And has like a crestthing in the middle.- And there is two guys andthey're standing side by sideand then I wanna say there's an eagleand the year 1842 on it?- It has a human on it.Is it a man?Or is, I don't think it's a woman.- The state flag is theonly double-sided flagin the United States and ithas something on the frontbut then on the back, there'sa picture of a beaver,our state animal.
