Midday news.

Just over an hour ago, governor kay ivey extended the safer at home order until the end of the month.

Waay31s sierra phillips is live with a breakdown of why this is needed.

Just after her announcement to extend the order-- state health officer doctor scott harris used recent data explain why the order was extended.

Right now there are more than 30 thousand cases of coronavirus in the state, with 800 deaths.

28 percent of all positive cases were confirmed just in the last 2 weeks.

Dr. harris asked everyone to practice social distancing and to wear face coverings.

Harris "i want to use this opportunity to plead with alabamians please take this seriously" governor ivey said she could order everyone to wear a mask but it would be impossible to enforce.

She wants alabamians to do that for their safety and the safety of others without a state wide mandate.
