Waiting for movie theaters to open
Theater owners are anxious to reopen.

Six... here'setrologistexpected to adde reopening of gyms in monday...many other businesses still shut down are wondering...what about us!

News channel twos gary liberatore spoke with the owners of a movie theatre in old forge who are asking just that.

Tc : 08:16 .well its been five months since anyones setting this ticket booth and the owners here hoping itll be pretty soon once someone sits in here again especially after the news from the governor on friday./ the strand in old forge is more than just a theatre... tc : 59:47 .this hallway access has three newer theaters but its also sort of a museum by accident./ it's no accident this place is like a musuem... as you walk the halls to get to the four theatres here...you can see just about every camera ever made...many of these came out of someones closet and were mailed in... (bob card, co-owner of 'the strand') .

None .

None tc : 03:38 .it showed up ups with a note in it that said it was raining and i found my way to your theater and i saw the cameras and i just have to put us here& laugh& .

But all of this could be lost if this theatre which has been open.... tc : 52:51 "since march 14 of 1923 so its opened in the silent era we bought the theater 1991 it was just one screen and was seasonal would be operated just in the summers in the falls we had a crazy idea that would be open every day of the year...and ah...."

And it was up until march 16th of this year.

Then covid came... (helen zyma, co- owner of 'the strand') tc : 52:07 "were getting hopeful because of bowling alleys are going to be allowed to reopened on monday and theyre going to address the situation with jims perhaps were last on the list and will be next i dont know."

So all of this could be lost if this closure is extended for much longer.... tc : 53:25 "this summer, july and august generally fund to the rest of the year so missing july and august.

..well you know.... tc : 55:15 "buildings like this are very needy they soak up a lot of money and maintenance so you have to be able to show your movies so your popcorn but we definitely love it its definitely a labor of love."

This movie ((loving(( couple that have owned this theatre since 1991...is hoping they can hold out until they can reopen... and just this past week..their next door neighbor came up with an idea to help... (michelle bartlett, owner of life in the adk) tc : 14:10 "because bob and helen are huge in the community they are a pillar of where we live, they love where they live they are always giving back to others they were always trying to find ways in which they can help it so i saw an opportunity to turn."

Michelle bartlett, owner of the novelty store life in the adk is selling gift cards for the theatre on her website...and besides people buying gifts cards to be used when the strand does open...some people are also donating cash.

The local youth summer group has even sent them...'we miss you cards'.

Tc : 55:55 "were here to greet people, we think them on the way out, and you get to know families."

Tc : 56:32 "i cant go to the grocery store without people saying we feel so bad for you when you go to reopen how can we get gift gift certificates and how can we help you so thats been wonderful its a very loving town we all look out for one another," (gary liberatore, news channel 2) tc : 08:47 "and just like gym owners, the owners of theaters will also be listening quiteand certainly to the governors press conference on monday.
