"The new Magnoli flag" is one of Mississippi's two final flag designs.

Next week the flag commission will select their final design.

Mississippians will then vote on that final choice in november.

Wcbi's bobby martinez talked with the designer about his process and what it means to him.

He joins us in the studio with more.

Video in monitor aundrea, his name is rocky vaughan and he is from ackerman.

And vaughan tells me he started working on a possible new design 8 years ago.

Hard work and dedication..

"it's and honor, i really is."

Vaughan says over the years he has had plenty of ideas and drawings for a new state flag.

He's even posted his designs on social media.

And we have the luxury of being the last ones and we can see everyone's designs and we can come up with something that can top them all.

So i came up with a lot of renditions.

I bet you i got i'll just say over 100" and this past tuesday..the mississippi department of archives and history..

But the interesting things is..

Vaughan never submitted this flag to the commission in the first place... sot - rocky vaughan - the new magnolia flag designer "it was my old pic that somebody put on there as their choice to submit you know what i'm saying.

So even though these four is all that i technically submitted i actually did a lot more on behalf of other folks which is pretty cool and that's how this one got there."

Vaughan says growing up in mississippi... he knows the history of this state..

So he didn't do a lot of research to create this design..

Magnolia is mississippi we are the magnolia state.

Come on that's it, that's all the research that you have to do is live here you know that.

And vaughan is hoping his hard- work will forever be etched in the rich history of mississippi... "not only i'll hol dear to my heart but hopefully my family my closest friends.

And my community, my home town of ackerman mississippi.

Hopefully they will take pride in it.

They may take more pride in it than i do although it'll be an honor, it'll be an honor."
