Bobby Deol on Aashram, playing a godman: 'I went quiet when Prakash Jha narrated the role'

It is a good time to be Bobby Deol.

The actor who saw the release of Class of 83 on Netflix a week back, returns as a godman in Prakash Jha’s Aashram.

Playing Baba Nirala of Kashipur who plays on blind faith, the chocolate boy of yesteryear’s is ready to go grey or even black when it comes to his roles.

“Looking at me, no one ever thought that I could play such a role,” Bobby says as he speaks about Aashram with Jyoti Sharma Bawa of HT.

He accepts that when director Prakash Jha narrated the role to him, he was taken aback for a few seconds but then jumped up at the opportunity.

“I have waited 25 years to work with Prakash.

He had met me when we were dubbing for Gupt, saying that we will work together but nothing could materialise then.” Answering a question if the show’s content may lead to controversies, the actor says the team is not taking on any religion but on blind faith and how conmen, in the garb of godmen, take advantage of it.

He also addresses the disclaimer to that effect that the team had shared before the show’s trailer even came out.
