Local leaders send California governor letter to reopen 6 North State counties

Local leaders and elected representatives have sent a letter to Governor Gavin Newsom asking him to lift the stay-at-home order in several northern California counties.

Six northern california counties sent a letter to governor gavin newsom asking to end the stay at home order for their areas.

Action news now reporter brandon benitez is live in chico with details on a potential re- opening... debbie, 22 signatures are on this letter to governor gavin newsom... 14 mayors and six board of supervisor chairs from butte, tehama, glenn, yuba, sutter, and colusa counties... and two state lawmakers.

I spoke to steve lambert who's the chair for butte county earlier today... he told me his approval on re- opening businesses were based off a few factors like local economies struggling... the local public health data shows the infection rate across these six counties has stayed low... in the letter they claim local hospitals are equipped with beds and supplies to handle even worst-case scenarios... we have to do something.

We can't live in a fear-based deal and i worry about that a bit as we've gone.

We're so worried that it's going to come back and to be able to open the door and is it too soon and oh my goodness here we are.

How do you know that?

That's where i'm at we have to get to a point where let's go out there do some smart things, let's listen to professionals, but we have to get back to normalcy lambert also told me the public needs to be personally responsible and have common sense going out when businesses re-open.

I reached out to mark orme who's the city manager for the city of chico... in addition to an upcoming butte county supervisors meeting -- orme says there's going to be a countywide planning process that'll start the blueprint for re- opening when the time comes.

That meeting is later this week... live in chico brandon benitez action news now coverage you can count on... the county supervisors meeting is tomorrow at 9 am -- we have a news link on our website..
