Chico Police adds eight policies in response to national movement

Action News Now reached out to the Chico Police Department but they could not comment at this time.

Virus- ## a national movement called 8 can't wait is pushing police departments to make 8 major changes to policy and training..

Alan- chico pd posted on its facebook the hashtag #8cantwait with 8 new policies- we listed 6 of those policies in the 4 and 5 oclock shows.

There are two more.

One is to require use of force continuum.

This means making sure officers understand their authority and its limits - especially as it relates to dealing with a suspect resisting arrest.

The last of the 8 policies - requiring comprehensive reporting.

This ensures officers report uses of force and the deparment reviews those reports.

I spoke with one community member who say she is proud of chico pd for doing this.

"weve had some really sad things under our belt here in chico and im sorry that it took this long for our local leaders to work with the pd to change their protocal so that this stuff doesnt happen anymore im very proud that chico is doing this and i hope that this is an example for other police departments nationwide," chico pd states dealing with a suspect resisting arrest.
