Limestone County Teachers
Lack of teachers for virtual learning

The past two weeks.

Today marks three weeks since the new school year began in limestone county and this morning, the distict is still working to hire more online teachers.

Waay31s sierra phillips is live with why the district say they still need to hire more teachers?

Superintendent dr. randy shearouse says there's two reasons behind the hiring problem - a teacher shortage across the country-- and the district not acting quickly enough when funding came in to create more classes for the virtual program.

Dr. shearouse says the district still needs to hire two more teachers for the virtual program -- and that's after the board of education hired 18 teachers earlier this week!

We spoke with a parent who says her daughter has had two virtualteachers resign since the first day of school.

Mother/ kristen williams"she's only eleven and she needs guidance.

She needs a teacher so if she has a question to be able to help her with and as you know, we don't have one of those."

Dr. shearouse said the need for teachers is making it competiitve and some leave for better job offers.

The superintendent also added that the district is trying to hire as quickly as possible..and assignment due dates will be pushed back for students who are getting their teachers late.
